TIPS FOR BETTER PHONE PHOTOS
This week, I was chatting with a fellow photographer about lens distortion and realised it’s a great tip that might help you with your phone photos too!
So, what is lens distortion? It’s when a camera lens bends straight lines, making things look stretched or curved. In portraits, this can mean noses appearing larger than they are, or faces looking unnaturally wide - especially when using a wide-angle lens (like phones) or taking selfies up close.
The Answer : Step back and zoom in a little for a more flattering perspective. And if you're taking a selfie, try holding your phone at arm’s length instead of too close to your face, or better yet get someone else to hold it.
I don’t know about you, but the second image is definitely better than the first for a phone selfie. But still not as good as a photo with all the right gear like dslr’s etc.
