THE DOUBLE CHIN AND THE TURTLE
Just yesterday I had the honour of photographing someone I worked with 11yrs ago, way back in the very beginning of the studio. And it was so much fun to see her repeat back the posing tips I shared way back then.
I still use them today, so I thought I’d share it with you HOW TO GET RID OF THE DOUBLE CHIN! Along with an old self-portrait photos from 11yrs ago modelling the move!
The Double Chin.
It happens to everyone, men and women, young and old. The moment we face the camera, it appears out of nowhere. Suddenly, that second chin sneaks in, our neck and chin meet in an unexpected embrace, and before we know it, our jawline seems to broaden.
Trust me: that’s not how you look in real life Tes! So don’t believe the photos when you see it. And there’s an easy way to make sure it doesn’t happen. When we smile, our natural reaction is to tuck our chin in and lift our heads back. It’s totally normal, but when the nerves of being in front of a camera kick in, it can make things look a bit... off.
Here’s where the magic comes in. The trick is to gently push your chin towards the camera, almost like you’re projecting your head forward and elongating your neck. Then, ever so slightly tip your chin down or bring your forehead forward.
It might feel a bit strange at first—trust me, it works wonders! From the side, it might look a bit odd, but the camera sees only from one angle, and that’s all that matters. This simple trick helps define your jawline and smooth out those little neck wrinkles we don’t want on display.
Photographers swear by this move, and it’s a go-to for models everywhere. Tyra Banks even calls it “The Turtle.” It’s easy, quick, and can completely change how you feel about your photos.
Give it a try! You might be surprised at just how well it works.
