10,000 hours
Have you ever heard the saying that it takes 10,000 hours to master a skill?
The thought can be daunting, but as I plan exciting updates for Sarahlee Studio, I find myself reflecting on my own journey in photography. Sometimes, progress feels so gradual that it seems like I’m going backwards rather than forwards. It’s only when I pause and look back at my early work—like recently when a client returned for another family shoot after 7 years—that I realise just how much has changed.
Each photo I’ve taken, every hour spent perfecting techniques, and all the learning along the way have truly added up. I want to share some of that hard-earned knowledge with you, such as insights into camera modes, so you can also create images you’re proud of and photos you’d love to hang on your wall.
Whatever your journey, I encourage you to embrace the process, even if it feels long or challenging. Celebrate your small wins and recognise your growth. Mastery takes time, and it’s through reflecting on our experiences that we see how far we’ve come. Keep pushing forward, and remember that every hour you put in brings you closer to your goals.
Thanks for being part of this journey with me!
